Wall Street Protests (Survival Kit Pt. 1 - Yoghurt)

For this, get a cow, a goat or a sheep - you'll need a litre of milk. Today we're namely making yoghurt.

To make yoghurt, you also need a dish with double walls, that is able to retain warmth longer then ordinary dishes. It has to be able to fit another dish inside itself. I bought mine from the net, cause it was impossible to get a non-electric one where I live. We namely want to avoid using electricity, which is a commodity, and one never knows. Plus you will anyway need to heat half a litre of water, but you can make a fire for this.

Tough times are namely ahead. Already now, the World strongly lacks culture. Yoghurt has plenty of culture, even in plural. It's also very nutritious.

You boil the water, and pour it into the double-walls dish. Into the smaller dish, you pour a litre of milk, and ad a bit of yoghurt from the previous time you were making it, or (if you haven't yet), your last in-store-bought pot of yoghurt. Stir and seal the lid. Put this dish on top of the water in the big dish, and close the big dish with its own lid. That's all.

While you wait for 12 hours, you can think plenty. About the society, that is so fucked up that food and water are high-speed becoming more valuable then gold. We seriously need to start thinking about self-supply. Buying local is not good enough any more (as isn't Hessel's getting angry, for that matter). It's important to understand growth of produce on 1m2. Where can you get enough soil, what will you plant, how will you replant over the year, how will your drainage work ... Yoghurt is a part of this way of thinking. It is good for health, because it helps with digestion. It is very welcoming to other food, and likes to mix with it. It can be stored for a couple of days some place cool. It can be frozen, made into a soup, a drink, or a spread.

But yoghurt is also a very good teacher. Not necessarily all of revolutions under its name were fertile or lead to a greater good, but we need to look into the content, not the name: in yoghurt, under some heat, stuff spreads. The idea of yoghurt starts off from a drop of added product, which - in only a couple of hours - conquers all the milk, and turns it into yoghurt. In a couple of hours, out of a decilitre of yoghurt, a litre emerges. A little part of that will make a new litre in another bowl, and so on - rather revolutionary, I'd say.
